Jasafrut S.A. recognizes the importance of integrating practices that contribute to sustainability in production systems, to contribute to the fight against climate change, food security and guarantee the conservation of natural resources. Therefore, its producers have adopted the following measures to advance on their path towards sustainability.

Carbon Footprint Calculation

Farms measure their carbon footprint to know the activities that generate the greatest emissions of Greenhouse Gases (GHG), in order to establish reduction plans, through the implementation of measures that mitigate climate change.

Water footprint calculation

Producers evaluate their water resource management by quantifying their water footprint. In order to identify risks, opportunities for improvement, know their impact and establish a reduction plan.

Soil evaluation

Our farms evaluate the soils, identifying horizons, depth, structure, texture, humidity, in order to establish measures for their management. In addition, periodic soil analyzes are carried out to evaluate fertility.

Wastewater management

Farms annually monitor wastewater discharges to verify that the water discharged from production processes meets the legal quality parameters for wastewater.

Water recirculation

The efficient use of water is promoted through the implementation of a recirculation system in the packing plant. Thus, the conservation of hydrographic basins is favored and the water footprint is reduced.

Integrated Pest and Weed Management

With the objective of reducing the use of pesticides, prioritizing environmental and social components for pest management, an IPM strategy was developed for the mealybug pest (Hemiptera: Pseudococcidae).

This was shared with the producers and farm workers, through teaching materials and training. Additionally, the use of beneficial microorganisms to control pests and diseases, and the use of a cover crop to control weeds, are being evaluated..

Establishment of vegetative barriers

Vegetative barriers are established in the areas of the farms that border aquatic ecosystems, public roads, areas of human presence, and the boundaries of the farm. In this way, protect aquatic ecosystems, stop the drift of agrochemicals, and increase carbon reservoirs.

Rational and responsible use of agrochemicals

Workers are trained in responsible handling of agrochemicals, with the aim of reducing negative impacts on their health and the environment. In addition, a List of Agrochemicals is managed, which is shared with the farms, so that they use products approved by Agrocalidad and the Rainforest Alliance. Thus, reducing the use of highly dangerous pesticides and mitigating the risks.

Development of tests to obtain zero waste fruit

Alternatives are being actively analyzed for the non-use of agrochemicals or the least possible use of them in the field, in this way a completely clean fruit can be obtained without any residue of active ingredients with biocidal action.
